As a troubled teenager, Carlos Acosta was whisked off the streets of his native Havana and enrolled in the Cuban national ballet. From that time on he has emerged as one of the most influential dancers of the twenty-first century. Throughout his career, Acosta has striven to shine an international light on his homeland’s rich cultural traditions, while also exposing Cuba to choreographic innovations happening around the globe. With this aim, Acosta established ACOSTA DANZA in 2015. Petra Giloy-Hirtz
Petra Giloy-Hirtz ist Kuratorin und Autorin zahlreicher internationaler Ausstellungen und Publikationen zur zeitgenössischen Kunst. Zuletzt veröffentlichte sie im Prestel Verlag: Julian Schnabel: Polaroids (2010), Dennis Hopper: The Lost Album (2012/2014), David Lynch: The Factory Photographs (2014), Kiki Smith: Procession (2018/19).
Carlos Acosta hat als Balletttänzer und Choreograph mit vielen namhaften Kompanien auf der Welt gearbeitet. Bis 2015 war er Solotänzer beim Royal Ballet und gründete im gleichen Jahr seine eigene Tanzkompanie, ACOSTA DANZA, auf Kuba.
